Women20 Inception Meeting South Africa 2025

Over 100 women from diverse backgrounds worldwide converged in Cape Town for the Women20 South Afriva (W20SA)  Inception Meeting held at Laguna Beach Hotel from 21-22 May 2025.

Gianna Avellis, Chair of ITARSA and ICoRSA, and Delegate of Women20 Italy, represented ICoRSA and ITARSA in the Women20 Inception Meeting South Africa, along with Sveva Avveduto, Chair of Donne & Scienza, member board of ITARSA and Delegate Women20 Italy, representing Donne & Scienza in W20.

The Women20 Inception Meeting was a very well organised meeting led by the Head of Delegation of South Africa, Prof. Narnia Boher-Muller, rich of contents on several topics discussed in the following Panels:

PANEL 1 The Intersections between Entrepreneurship, Financial Inclusion and Care Economy

PANEL 2 Gender-based Violence as a Critical Barrier to Women’s Progression in STEM

PANEL 3 The Challenges and Promises of a Just Transition to Renewable Energy Women’s Economic Empowerment

PANEL 4 The Untapped potential of Rural Women for Climate Resilience, Food Security, and Digital Transformation

During the Inception Meeting on the 21 May it was held a W20 Delegations Meeting to discuss the status of the Communique’ : a first draft of the Communiqué was distributed and discussed among the several W20 Delegations and comments will be given by 20 June 2025. 

The current Working Groups addressed by W20 SA in the Communiquè are as follows:

3. ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FINANCIAL INCLUSION
4. EDUCATION, STEM AND THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

6. GENDER -BASED VIOLENCE AND FEMINICIDE
7. WOMEN, LAND AND AGRICULTURE
