G.Avellis, chair of ItalianRSA, was invited by Prof. Teresa Kennedy of Texas University at UNESCO HEadquarters in Paris, December 2022, to present the research on Gender Gap in STEM at the ICASE2023 Conference which had STEM Education as a focus. G.Avellis presented “An Intelligent Chatbot for Gender Inclusive Science” paper on how to make science more gender inclusive by applying AI, IoT, wearable and sharable mobile technologies, such as Chatbots. Her talk focus was on describing the problems, challenges and research questions on the Gender Gap of women and girls in STEM, and she sketched the solution, that is, a mobile twins peaks approach. The conclusions consisted in presenting some issues on the future work with Patricia Charlton and Sam Scott, prof. at Open University, on the position paper Hidden in Plain Sight: A Systematic Review of the Literature on the Impact of Culture on Women’s Careers in STEM and Wall of Silence Surrounding Equality in STEM and mentioning two books for the audience to read, namely:
- Book LEAN IN by Sheryl Sandberg
- Book INVISIBLE WOMEN – Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez
The audience was interested in the presentation and asked for more info especially on some example of using the chatbots. G.Avellis had a scenario on this, however it was too long to be presented at the conference, and decided to show it in the final version of the paper to be published after the conference.
