The Italian Research Staff Association (ItalianRSA) represents salaried research staff in Italy, including researchers within Universities, Research Centres and Associations, and individual researchers who lack representation through an RSA, and to advocate for their common interests at a National and International level in particular towards the goal of sustainable research careers.

The ItalianRSA consists of members from
  • University of Bari – UNIBA
  • Italian National Research Council – CNR
  • Accademia Pugliese delle Scienze
  • European Research Centre for Sustainable Innovations – CREIS
  • Science Museum – MUSE

and actively welcomes research staff from all higher education institutes across Italy to contact us and join the association.

The Italian Research Staff Association ItalianRSA was set up in December 2021 to provide help, advice and a voice for the group of researchers form academia and industry both within CNR and Italian Universities, and nationally in several associations.  More specifically, several researchers within associations, universities and research centres feel that there is no voice to represent them and that many of the problems that are unique to them have not been properly identified and addressed.

By 2014, it was recognised that many of these same problems also extended to the wider research community as a whole, and International Consortium of Research Staff Associations (ICoRSA) was founded to address these issues internationally as an umbrella association of several Research Staff Associations (RSA). The decision of ItalianRSA was therefore taken to adhere to ICoRSA to better reflect the wider objectives of the international consortium, and to participate in its EU projects.

ItalianRSA works with ICoRSA and other relevant bodies at national and international level, such as UNESCO, WAYS, Eurodoc, MCAA, EPWS to help address these concerns. We hope that this page will serve as a useful portal that Researchers can use to learn more about the issues that concern them and as a forum for putting forward their opinions.

Our association was set up by and is run by Researchers on an entirely voluntary basis. Since February 2022, the international umbrella RSA, ICoRSA, is supporting us in our administrative tasks. ItalianRSA will strive to equally represent research staff at all stages of their careers, and from all our universities, research centres, industries, and associations. We strongly welcome comments or questions and our secretary, Massimiliano Ruzzeddu can be contacted at mruzzed@hotmail.com

ItalianRSA plays an important role in the Italian research enterprise by enhancing the productivity and experiences of Italian research staff, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career researchers, who together are the lifeblood of the Italian research enterprise.
